Get an OpenAI (ChatGPT) API key
Needed for voice features, optional for advisors. Create a key at platform.openai.com.
OpenAI makes ChatGPT. In Twelve Seat an OpenAI key powers all voice features (realtime voice, speech-to-text, spoken replies) and can also power advisors. A ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription does not include API access. The API is billed separately.
Steps
- Go to platform.openai.com and sign in with your OpenAI account.
- Open Settings → Billing and add a payment method or prepaid credits.
- Open API keys and click Create new secret key. Name it "Twelve Seat" and keep the default permissions.
- Copy the key (it starts with
sk-). It's shown only once. - In Twelve Seat, go to Settings → Connected services → OpenAI (ChatGPT), paste it, Save, then Test.
Good to know
- New OpenAI accounts sometimes need to verify their organization, or reach a usage tier, before realtime voice models work. If voice says the model isn't available, check the OpenAI dashboard for a verification prompt.
- Set a usage limit under Settings → Limits in the OpenAI dashboard.
